Lactation Breast Massage & Breastfeeding Support

Although breastfeeding is ‘natural’ it is not purely instinctive. Breastfeeding is a learned skill – learned by both the mother and the baby. If a mother and baby are helped at the start they are far less likely to have breastfeeding problems later.

A postpartum doula can help you with any of the following:-

  • make breastfeeding successful right from the beginning that is the first few days from birth
  • how to read the clue when your baby is hungry
  • sore or bleeding nipples
  • engorgement
  • “fussy” baby
  • advice on proper latching
  • a baby who never seems to stop feeding or sleeps at the breast without sucking vigorously
  • a sleepy baby who does not wake to nurse
  • a baby who chokes and sputters at the beginning of a nursing
  • if supplements have been suggested and you’d like to supplement while still encouraging breastfeeding
  • when baby is separated from mummy, for example, in the case of jaundice treatment
  • low milk supply
  • massaging latching breasts
  • hospital visit or home visit
