Although breastfeeding is ?natural? it is not purely instinctive. Breastfeeding is a learned skill ? learned by both the mother and the baby. If a mother and baby are helped at the start they are far less likely to have breastfeeding problems later.
A postpartum doula can help you with any of the following:-
- make breastfeeding successful right from the beginning that is the first few days from birth
- how to read the clue when your baby is hungry
- sore or bleeding nipples
- engorgement
- “fussy” baby
- advice on proper latching
- a baby who never seems to stop feeding or sleeps at the breast without sucking vigorously
- a sleepy baby who does not wake to nurse
- a baby who chokes and sputters at the beginning of a nursing
- if supplements have been suggested and you’d like to supplement while still encouraging?breastfeeding
- when baby is separated from mummy, for example, in the case of jaundice treatment
- low milk supply
- massaging latching breasts
